The United States Department of Defense has awarded a $25 million construction contract to five companies based in Djibouti. The contract, facilitated by the U.S. Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Europe Africa Central (NAVFAC EURAFCENT), is part of the “Africa First” initiative aimed at fostering economic growth and stability in the region.
The multi-year contract will involve infrastructure enhancements at Camp Lemonnier and other U.S. military installations within Djibouti. It was awarded under the “Africa First” legislation, which gives procurement preference to local firms, promoting job creation and business development in the host nation. The contract has a five-year term with no extensions.
U.S. Navy Capt. Eilis Cancel, commanding officer of Camp Lemonnier, emphasized the long-standing partnership between the United States and Djibouti, stating, “This enduring partnership underscores our shared regional security goals and positively contributes to the Djiboutian economy.”
